Romans 10:10 *For with the heart man believeth* unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
With the heart man believes and not with the mouth.
Zachariah wanted to pretend as though he had little faith with his mouth by asking for a sign but his heart revealed his true state unto the angel of the Lord.
This is what is happening to many today, when they stand before fellow believers, they confess all is well but in their minds, they are saying "am not sure this God is faithful, why is this and that happening if God indeed see what am going through?".
Some others are confessing it is well when they meet their neighbours but actually blaming God profusely in their hearts even as they say that.
Zachariah was smitten because there was unbelief in his heart but he seems to utter words which were neutral asking for a sign. He got dumbness as a sign because of his unbelief.
What goes on in your mind determines what will flow into your life. If before men you say "all is well" and in your heart you are so full of doubt and unbelief, you won't see any tangible and positive result.
When you ask for a sign like Mary under a clear conscience and faith, you are bound to get a very good sign rather than when you ask for a sign having unbelief in your heart.
"With the heart man believeth.." When the thoughts of your heart flows together with the words of your mouth, you will see the hand of God in your life in the midst of seemingly hopeless situations.
