♦ *TOPIC: THE UNANSWERED QUESTION*

Matthew  16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

We have never been able to correctly answer the questions God throw at us in certain scriptures and this is not because we don't want to answer the questions but because we don't really give much attention to considering the weightiness of those questions and the impact they have on our lives and destiny. One of such question was the one our Lord asked in Matthew 16:26. Here, Jesus was asking for that which we shall truly benefit if we gain the whole world at the expense of our life.

Many of us have only answered this question verbally saying "Nothing" but our heart and our actions betray us. This is why this question even though verbally answered has never been truly answered because our heart and actions betray us.

This can be likened to as when a child goes for a night vigil together with his parents and was suddenly fell asleep after hearing the topic of the message, he was asleep all through the preaching but returning home now,  the father asked him, "were you blessed by that powerful message?" The young boy answered "yes sir, the pastor preached about Faithfulness and upright living".
The father was excited that his son was awake during the sermon but yet the response of the son showed that he was awake when he wasn't awake. If he had said the truth, the father would have talked to him about what was preached but his father being convinced that he heard the preaching never bothered to talk about it any more.

What multitude of us are doing is just as what that young boy did and said to his father, the only difference is that after lying, we think we can blackmail God, but can we really pretend or blackmail the God who sees even in secret? Can we really and genuinely answer the question of our Lord in Matthew 16:26?

This has been the unanswered question. What indeed can we gain that will equal to the price and value of our soul?

Ask a dead billionaire or millionaire, "How much he left in this world?" He will tell you he left everything and that's because not even money is enough to value for the price of a man's soul. Many have lost their lives and destinies just in the quest for making the money they won't take to eternity.

Beloved, everything in this world, whether the things you have or the things you don't have, none of them can equal to the value and preciousness of your soul. Where will you spend your eternity after spending few of your years on the sand of time?

Some sell their soul for a few hours' guilty pleasure!

Some sell their soul for a political office!

Some sell their soul for filthy lucre!

Some sell their soul for honor which fades in a day.

Some others are selling their souls also in many other ways for pitiable trifles Like Esau, they are bartering their heavenly birthright for a bowl of stew!

What shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
